Daily Writing Prompt: Which celebrity would you love to meet, and what would you talk about?

If I could meet any celebrity it would be Anthony Bourdain.

I never had an idol, or anyone I looked up to but the closet thing would be Anthony Bourdain. I have spoken about him before, his cool New York swagger. Rebel attitude and love for food, culture, exploration and bridging the gap between the narratives told by the mass media versus the true story of the people, wherever he visited.

I have watched him since a child. From Food Network, to Travel Channel and finally CNN. He was my inspiration for wanting to travel the world for food and opened my mind to new cultures and experiences I would have never seen.

I had the opportunity to see him live, however I decided I didn’t have the time and I would see him the next time he came to Atlanta.

Shortly after he committed suicide…

I can’t say I regret too many things in my life, but I regret not going when I had the chance. That taught me a lesson in time and how we should make the best of the moments we have because we never know what tomorrow will bring.

It also highlighted a struggle that had plagued me for awhile.

You see…

The previous year, another figure from my childhood, Chester Bennington committed suicide. Then the following year, Anthony Bourdain. Which left me with a question.

Do you over really overcome Depression?

Anthony made it to the golden years of his life and he had everything or so it would seem. A great career and people who loved him. He was living his best life or so it seemed.

Why make it that far and take your life anyway. I was hopeless because it seemed as if it were something I would never overcome.

Fast forward 2.5 years later and I lost my cat.lol I will never stop talking about losing my Shadowman lmao 🐈‍⬛😭. He was special and I did feel bad for my other pets because I couldn’t hide that he was my favorite. Although they are loved and taken care of and definitely ate up all the attention afterwards.lol

However, I mention his death because he was my anchor. The thing that kept me tethered to this world and when he died, I unexpectedly crossed a threshold.

I thought if I lost him I would lose the last bit of hope, but the opposite happened and I found a reason to live.

So…if I had the chance to speak with Anthony, I would love to grab a good meal at some of his favorite places around the world and ask him…

Why? What is it he was dealing with that no one could see?…
