Writing Prompt: What’s the first book you ever finished and still remember to this day?
As a child, my father exposed me to books, music, and films that would have a great impact on my life’s journey.
While my parents were at work, I would venture into their room and explore the contents of their inner world through clothes, music, and books. There were 2 books I remember clearly. Tom Clancy’s NetForce: Cyber Nation, which introduced me to the art of Capoeira and Virtual Reality. The 2nd book…the one that I could not put down once I began….From The Corner of His Eye by Dean Koontz.
One scene that I remember vividly is with the character “Barty”. There was a moment when it was raining, and he slipped between dimensions effortlessly, moving between the raindrops. This introduced me to Quantum Physics and Multi-dimensions.
Fast forward many years later, in my early 20’s, I had a beat-up Buick Century. The winters in New Jersey can be harsh. One day, after work, the snow piled onto my windshield wipers. When I turned this on, the snow was solid, and the weight burned out my wiper motor. Instead of spending the money to fix it, young and dumb as I was, I figured my money could be spent better elsewhere, the one thing I did not account for was the rain….
There was a terrible storm, the first heavy rain I encountered since my wiper motor died. In a panic to get home from work, I remembered the scene about moving between the raindrops. With nothing else to lose, I made up my mind and decided I would see between the raindrops to make it home…..
To my surprise, it worked!
This was the moment when I realized anything was possible, and I was determined to test the limits of the mind.
What moments made you question the limits of your reality?
