Spirituality vs Religion

Understanding in faith

The Beginnings

Many Americans grow up in religious households, whether it be Christianity and it’s mini sectors, Islam, Judaism, and the list goes on. America is a country founded on religion.

My childhood religion was Jehovah witness. Yes, I have heard all the jokes and as a child I was happily knocking on a door near you.

As much as I enjoyed being out and about with my family and spreading the good word of Jehovah God, I had many questions within that were left unanswered. Numerous occasions I was told to be obedient and do not question God! But I had a knowing inside that God would not allow me to have these questions without providing me with answers. So, I decided as soon as I was of age, I would go and seek answers to the many questions forming within.

The Journey

My search began in my teenage years I went from church to church. I wanted to understand the differences between each sector of Christianity.

I never understand why people who worshiped the same God could be so divided. On my quest I found that all sectors taught the same underlying principles. They were as such,

  1. Be a decent person.
  2. Love your neighbors as you love yourself.
  3. Give thanks and gratitude to the creator.

If they all teach the same basic principles, then why the division?

A Spiritual Journey Story

As a youth I was always interested in science. Especially when it came to the Universe and anything having to do with outer space. Later in life, I would find interest in astrophysics and quantum physics. With my eyes wide open, there was no turning back.

Studying the history of religion, I went back to the beginning. When you deep dive into religion you find many interesting things. Dating back to the Sumerians, civilizations called to Gods to help with war, crops, and etc. “Religion gave civilizations cultural communications, moral expectation, and personal trust among people who were sharing, meeting, and doing business outside of their local neighborhoods. “(Anita Ravi – The Origins of World Religion)

Jumping back into Christianity, founded in 1 C.E. With Jesus Christ, the religion offered Salvation for many who would devote their life to the cause. Christianity rose through the centuries after the crucifixion of Jesus as the apostles began to spread the word.

As Christianity populated the world, the Romans claimed special authority to lead the church. “Constantine completely altered the relationship between the church and the imperial government, thereby beginning a process that eventually made Christianity the official religion of the Empire. “( Britannica) This was the beginning of Christianity using religion as a way to control the masses and gain political power through fear.

When looking to the core of religion, I found that it started from a good place but like all things when involved with politics, it became distorted. This is when I turned to spirituality. Stripping away all of the programming and propaganda and getting to the source. Who is God? Why are we here? What was beyond the stars? This led me to discover quantum physics and from that point on my mind heart and eyes were open.

A Spiritual Path

The curious bit is when you seek, you always find what you are searching for. I understood that religion in today’s society was put in place for those who seek an explanation for the ways of the world. People who are looking for a higher power outside of themselves to give them direction.

Spirituality originally means ‘fleshy’, “contrast to God’s spirit.” (Philip Sheldrake, Oxford Academic) It dates back to the beginning of time. Although Spirituality is linked to Christianity and many other ancient religions, it has taken on a life of it’s on in today’s society. Today spirituality focuses on holistic practices. Leading people to seek the answers from within by connecting with the source of energy all around them. Tapping into the energy of the universe to find out who and what they truly are.

My thoughts

Whether you are religious or a spiritualist, we all seek to vibrate from a place of love and understanding of one another. It is not for us to judge each others lifestyle, but to be an example. Living our purpose truthfully, graciously, and lovingly. Just because someone follows religion does not mean that they are ignorant or do not have a mind of their own. Simply put, they find solitude in what their God can offer them, usually meaning salvation. Raising your awareness to someth9ng greater, like what lies beyond the veil is very powerful and can be overwhelming to open yourself up to all that this life entails. The best thing we can do is be loving and supportive of those who seek answers in ways that best resonate with their inner guidance.

A Wayshower’s Journey

One response to “Spirituality vs Religion”

  1. […] As a child I asked questions at a very early age about religion. Being raised in a strict religion, Jehovah witness, left me with many inquires. Many of my questions were not to be answered, as we were told we must be obedient and do not question the Lord. I thought to myself, why would the Lord curse me with all of these questions, but not allow me to receive any answers. This was the beginning of the reprogramming my mind.
