CHAPTER 5: JOURNEY TO PLANET X
“All systems a go.” He heard over the telecom. “The destination is approximately 100 km.” There have been many missions but this one was the most important. Commander Jet: A name so fitting there could never be any denying his destiny. Jet and his crew were on a mission to colonize a newly discovered Earth like planet. That planet was known to he and his crew as Xtasy, Planet X for short.
The state of planet Earth has been on a rapid decline for the past two decades. The space project recently discovered an Earth like planet in the habitable zone of the Messier 83 galaxy. Commander Jet and his crew of 6 were to be the first to arrive. The success of their mission would mean that the 7 million remaining people on Earth would have a new home. This was a hard journey for the Commander. He lost his son due to the poor conditions of Earth’s atmosphere. Johnny was his name, and he was the apple of Jet’s eye. The one who would follow in his footsteps. Jet’s wife could not bear the loss of her son and soon after she took her own life. There was nothing left to lose on Earth but now he had created his own family within his crew. Jet decided to leave his sorrow on Earth and take a chance on Planet Xtasy. A suiting name because that’s what he hoped he would find.
Exhilaration! A new life! That’s what they hoped they would find on planet Xtasy. God willing his family’s death would not be in vain. It was a painful experience to leave everything he had ever known for the unknown. Jet was struck with anxiety. “What am I doing.” He thought. They have no idea what they were getting themselves into, but this was his purpose. Hell, with a name like Jet this was his destiny. Ordained by God. An outlaw. Always the first to embark on mission to unchartered territory. Although this was different. This was insane he thought. No family and barely a place to call home. Planet X was there only foreseeable chance at having a life. A fresh start for generations to come. Jet hoped they were doing the right thing.
Jet was a man of science and a man of God. Many people wondered how he could believe in both but experiencing what was in front of him he thought how could he not believe in a higher power. The universe was perfect even in its destruction. It was all a part of the plan. Commander Jet and his crew were chosen among 112 volunteers. They were not just chosen by the space station but by higher power with a greater plan. When he remembered the journey to get to where he was now, he had no choice but to replace his fear with trust. They will save the last 7 million people left on Earth. His last thought as they were now reaching their destination. Planet Xtasy.
